Virginia educators must earn 180 professional development points every 5 years. Credit from a regionally accredited university may be applied toward these points. Each graduate/semester credit hour is worth 30 professional development points and must be recorded on an official college or university transcript.
- Graduate Credits Option: Teach & Kids Learn (TKL) provides accredited university graduate credits courses. We provide official transcripts. and letter grades upon the successful completion of your selected course. When selecting your course, choose any of our Graduate Credit level courses from our registration page.
1 Graduate/Semester Credit is equal to 30 professional development points.
We always recommend that you follow any pre-approval requirements in your district before you register for courses. However, many teachers have been successful using our courses to advance on their district’s salary scale—and have typically been able to use our university/college-level course offerings.

State Requirements:
Licenses for renewal may be submitted to the Office of Licensure any time after January 1 of the year of expiration. Renewal requests should not be submitted prior to January 1 of the year of expiration.

Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual (Word) – This manual is for a five-year renewable license. Effective July 1, 2018, the Technology Standards requirement is eliminated for teachers seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license. Also effective July 1, 2018, renewable licenses will be issued for ten years.
